I was inspired by a talk T.D. Jakes gave on the book of Luke 5:1. The first part of Luke 5:1 we see Jesus gets out on a boat in the middle of the water to teach the crowds that are on sitting on the shore. It’s interesting that the bible here does not record what Jesus said. I don’t know about you, but Jesus’s words are powerful and alive so I would want to know what he said. Other parts of the bible the words of Jesus are recorded but not here. Now in verse 4 it gets very interesting because it’s more what Jesus does rather than what he said.
Simon( Peter) worked hard all night trying to catch fish but gave up because there was no fish. He and his friends were then washing their nets because there was no catch. Now Jesus comes along and tells Simon (Peter)
“Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
There’s two things to notice here, the first is Jesus is telling Simon to go out into deep water and not the shallow water. The second thing here is notice that Jesus told Simon to put down their nets (plural - many) and not net (singular - one).
Because Simon believed Jesus, Simon went out into the deep and threw out the nets. This is what happened as recorded in verse 6:
…When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink…
Pretty Amazing!! Simon (Peter) was about to give up but when he went out into the deep with all his nets, He had a blessing so great he needed help to handle it. An overabundance of blessing came his way.
What are you giving up on or ready to give up on? What is your struggle? No matter what it is, try going out deeper with God and go with all your nets and let me know what you catch. I too have struggles in where I feel defeated. We need to keep going deeper because that’s where the treasure is. The great news is the treasure is there waiting for you to get it. No one else will take it. It’s sitting there just for you.
Be Blessed.
